Lago Vista is the gateway to the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. This 22-square-mile preserve was established to protect the rugged habitat of two endangered species, the tiny Golden-Cheeked Warbler and the Black-Capped Vireo. Dozens of other native species also call this enormous refuge home including deer, fox, coyote, armadillos, and many other species of birds.
