Welcome to Jonestown

Jonestown, Texas is located on Lake Travis and is just a mere 19 miles from downtown Austin.  In what is known as the “Gateway to the Hill Country” with its large oak trees, amazing parks and rivers, the beauty of the lake, and simplicities of a country lifestyle, residents in this area enjoy a great quality of life! Let Emily Dieckmann’s Real Estate team help you find homes for sale in Jonestown, TX.

What was once a simple haven for weekend fishermen and boaters, Jonestown is now an ideal location for folks who enjoy the serenity of the natural surroundings but appreciate the easy commute to work downtown.  Today you will find gorgeous new homes in gated communities built on spacious lake-front lots or tucked away in the countryside with amazing lake views.  Fishing and hunting have remained popular activities for residents and visitors who enjoy the free access to local rivers and creeks in the valleys and the easy access to the trails up through the hills.

For a small town, this area is well-known for big annual festivities!  This area also offers live music and entertainment, a vibrant art scene with local artists selling their original works, and shops for all to enjoy.

Parks

Jones Brothers Park is located along the shores of Lake Travis and offers a variety of amenities.  This sprawling 32-acre park features covered picnic sites, playing fields, fields made specifically for lakeside festivals, sand volleyball, tennis and basketball courts, walking paths, and playscapes for children. The lengthy shoreline is perfect for swimming or fishing, canoe and kayak rental, and three public boat ramps offer easy access to the water.  Visitors are also welcome to explore more of the Jonestown landscape on the Canyon Hiking Trails.

Fireman’s Park is a smaller park that offers plenty of shade, ten picnic tables, and a wood-burning smoker and is connected to Jones Brothers Park via the Canyon Hiking Trail.

Veterans Memorial Park offers grassy knolls and beautiful picnic areas under the canopy of stately oak trees. The heart of this much-loved park features a bronze statue of a young soldier that was created by a local artist and is entitled “Going Home.”

Chimney Swifts

For decades, a historic cistern in the middle of Jonestown has been a second home for hundreds of chimney swifts. Arriving in mid-March and staying through the end of September, the birds consume mass quantities of insects all day before converging and swooping into the cistern for the night. The town appreciates their insect-eradication efforts so much they partner with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge every year for “Swift Fest” to draw attention and respect for chimney swifts.
